Osteoporosis Program

Osteoporosis TreatmentOsteoporosis is a major health concern in Canada and affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 8 men over the age of 50. In response to our patients' requests to be reassured that they were doing the right exercise the right way Pro Motion Physiotherapy developed an Osteoporosis program in 1995. Bonny O’Hare (Physiotherapist) and Sue Merritt (Exercise Therapist) continued to develop this exercise and education program which became "Osteo-Circuit" in 2005.

Osteoporosis TreatmentThe unique Osteo-Circuit program consists of a detailed assessment by a Physiotherapist experienced in the field of osteoporosis. All Physiotherapists at Pro Motion Physiotherapy who perform the assessment have undergone educational sessions by Osteoporosis Canada. In addition, the Physiotherapists take ongoing post-graduate courses in this field. Bonny attended an international conference on Osteoporosis in Manchester England in July 2009 to gather further information on the latest research in the UK.

Osteoporosis TreatmentOnce the assessment is completed then an individualized exercise program is carefully developed for each patient. As people with osteoporosis sometimes have other health concerns or conditions it is important that the exercise program is individualized to their needs. Patients then exercise in our gym under our supervision to ensure the right exercise is performed the right way and that the program is safely progressed. Patients can start at any time and can be at any level of fitness and physical ability! Everyone can benefit!
